Managing your financial aid

Understanding financial aid as a Lumberjack

The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid is here to help admitted NAU students navigate and maintain their financial aid and its processes through their time as a Lumberjack.

If you’re an incoming student who has not yet applied to NAU or completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), check out our financial aid page for incoming students.

Check email and LOUIE for updates

Once you have been admitted to NAU and have filled out the FAFSA, be sure to check both your NAU and personal email accounts, as well as your LOUIE student account, regularly. Sometimes there is additional information or documentation needed in order to keep your financial records accurate and up-to-date.

In particular, keep an eye on your “To Do List” located on the right side of your LOUIE account.

How disbursement works

Disbursement is the name for the process of financial aid (scholarships, grants, loans, etc.) being distributed into your LOUIE account to pay for tuition, fees, and other expenses.

Learn more about the disbursement process and its timelines.

Continue to fill out the FAFSA

Did you know you (and your parent, if you are a dependent student) must continue to complete the FAFSA every year? The FAFSA generally becomes available around Oct. 1 for the following academic year. NAU students should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible each year to ensure you are getting the most possible aid.

Maintain your aid eligibility

Scholarships and other aid are not guaranteed for the entire time you are a Lumberjack. You must meet certain requirements each year in order to continue receiving your current aid or new aid.

In particular, familiarize yourself with Satisfactory Academic Progress, which is the standard you must meet in your classes in order to continue receiving certain types of aid.
