NAU Merit Scholarships and Waivers
NAU merit tuition scholarships
Merit-based scholarships for non-residents
Students will automatically be considered
for NAU's President's Scholarship for Non-Residents. This is a renewable award if the student
meets the criteria outlined above. The Dean's
and Merit scholarships are available for Arizona residents only.
Students participating in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) tuition discount program are not
eligible to receive the President's Scholarship for Non Residents.
International student tuition waivers

2NAU - Joint admission transfer scholarship
Students who apply to the 2NAU Joint Admission Program for the spring 2013 term and beyond may be eligible for the 2NAU Joint Admission Scholarship. This award cannot be used at other universities or colleges.
Award amount
Qualified recipients will receive $1,000 per term for a maximum of two consecutive terms (excluding summer), totaling $2,000. This award is applied to undergraduate in-state tuition only. Total number of scholarships awarded may vary depending on availability of funds.
Recipient Eligibility
- Admittance to the 2NAU Joint Admission program and successfully transitioned to NAU to pursue a bachelor's degree.
- Successful completion of an associate's degree at a 2NAU partner college in fall 2012 or later, with a 3.5 or better cumulative grade-point average.
- Enrollment as a full-time (minimum of 12 units), degree-seeking student at NAU in the fall or spring term immediately following completion of community college coursework.
- Arizona residency and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and documentation of lawful presence as described under Arizona's Proposition 300.
Renewability
The award is renewable for a maximum of one term (fall or spring), provided the recipient has:
- achieved at least a 3.25 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) during their first term at NAU,
- successfully completed 12 units during their first term at NAU,
- and enrolled full-time (minimum of 12 units) in their second term at NAU.
Combining Awards
This award cannot be combined with other
tuition scholarship awards beyond the cost of the resident portion of tuition.
It cannot be applied to mandatory or special class fees, or to other charges
such as housing, meal plans, etc.

President's International Baccalaureate (IB) Scholarship
Description
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program is designed as an academically challenging and balanced program of education with the final examinations that prepares students for success at university and life beyond. The program is normally taught over two years.
The diploma is awarded to students who earn at least 24 points, subject to certain minimum levels of performance across the whole program and to satisfactory participation in the creativity, action, service requirement. The highest total that a Diploma Program student can be awarded is 45 points.
Criteria
- Student must apply and be offered admission to Northern Arizona University (effective Fall 2010)
- Student must have completed and received an International Baccalaureate diploma (an IB certificate will not be sufficient for scholarship purposes)
- Awarded to undergraduate, first degree seeking students
- Scholarship is to be used for tuition only
- May not be combined with AIMS, President, Dean's or Merit Scholarships
- May not be combined with Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program
- Student must maintain a 2.5 grade point average and complete 30 credit hours per year to renew
Award
- $5,000 annual award
- Renewable for seven additional semesters of undergraduate study if the student maintains a 2.5 grade point average and completes 30 credit hours per year
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
This scholarship is open to students who are currently attending
a two year college and who will be attending NAU the following semester as an
undergraduate, first degree seeking student.
To be eligible, the student must be a member of Phi Theta
Kappa. Once admitted to NAU, complete
the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship Application to be considered. You must also submit community college unofficial transcripts.

All Arizona Academic Team
Phi Theta Kappa, two-year presidents, and community college
state associations all co-sponsor "All State Academic Recognition
Teams" in 34 states. Students
nominated to the All-USA Academic Team are automatically named to the All-State
Academic Team.
Each two year college in Arizona may nominate two students per
campus to the All-USA Academic Team.
Students from Arizona nominated to the national team comprise the All
Arizona Academic Team. Nominations are
based on outstanding academic performance and service to the college and
community.
All Arizona Academic Team members are eligible for full resident
tuition scholarships under the following criteria:
- Maximum of 60 undergraduate credit hours, for a maximum of 10
semesters (excluding summer)
- Must be continuously in attendance
- Enrolled in a minimum of six credits per semester
- 3.25 GPA or higher
- Be seeking a first undergraduate degree

Arizona Boys State tuition scholarship
Description
Arizona Boys State is a summer leadership and
citizenship program sponsored by the American Legion for high school students
between their junior and senior years.
The event is hosted on our campus every year.
Criteria
- Student must be named Governor,
Lieutenant Governor or Boys Nation Representative while participating in Boys
State leadership program hosted on our campus.
- Student must apply and be offered
admission at Northern Arizona University.
- Awarded to Arizona resident, undergraduate,
first degree seeking students.
- Scholarship will be applied to tuition
only.
- May not be combined with AIMS, President,
Dean's or Merit Scholarships.
- Student must maintain 2.5 grad point
average and complete 30 credit hours per year to renew.
Amount
- $1,000 per academic year
- Four awards will be offered annually (if
student attends NAU)
- Renewable for up to eight semesters
Arizona Peace Officers' Memorial waiver (15-1808)

Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) scholarship
Award amount
- $500 annual award
- Renewable for up to eight semesters of
undergraduate studies
Criteria
- Student must apply and be offered
admission to Northern Arizona University
- Student must have attended a Hugh O'Brian
Leadership Seminar
- Student must attend NAU-Flagstaff campus
in the fall immediately after graduating from high school
- Awarded to undergraduate, first
degree-seeking students
- Scholarship is to be used only at NAU and
only for tuition
- Scholarship is for fall and spring
semesters only. The award is not
available for summer sessions or winter intercessions.
- May be used in combination with
President, Merit and Dean's scholarships, not to exceed resident tuition
- Scholarship cannot be applied to
mandatory or special calls fees, or other charges such as housing, meal plans,
etc.
- Scholarship cannot be used in conjunction
with the Western Undergraduate Exchange program (WUE) or the World Wide
University programs (WWU)
- Student must maintain a 2.5 grade point
average and complete 30 credit hours per year to renew
Spouses and children of fallen firefighters waiver (15-1808)

Purple Heart tuition waiver (HB 2350)
Description
Tuition waiver scholarship for recipients of the Purple Heart.
Criteria
- Verification by the Arizona Department of
Veteran’s Services that the student is a member or former member of the United
States Armed Forces who received a Purple Heart citation and was a resident of
the state of Arizona or was stationed in Arizona at the time of the injury that
resulted in the Purple Heart citation and whose disability rating determined by
the United States Department of Veterans Affairs is 50 percent or more;
- The student meets the university’s
regular admission requirements; and
- A person who is convicted of a felony is
ineligible for this tuition waiver scholarship.

Havasupai Promise scholarship
Description
ABOR Universities shall provide a total of 30 undergraduate
scholarships and five graduate scholarships to enrolled members of the
Havasupai Tribe seeking education at one of the three ABOR universities. The
commitment to award the scholarships will expire in 2035 (plus any additional
years remaining on a scholarship awarded within the 25 years) or to if the last
of the scholarships has been awarded and has reached its expiration date.
A maximum of 4 undergraduate scholarships per year will be
awarded between the three Arizona universities.
Award amount
- Award amount equals tuition, fees, room,
board and books
- Tuition
and fees based on actual amounts paid
- Room
and board based on average on campus housing rate and 19 meal plan
- Books
based on average used in financial aid cost of attendance
- Renewable for up to 10 semesters (5
years) for undergraduate scholarship and 6 semesters (3 years) for graduate
scholarship
Criteria
Recipients must be an enrolled member of the Havasupai tribe
- Recipients must apply and be offered
admission to Northern Arizona University
- The scholarship is transferrable between
Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University and University of Arizona
- Recipient must complete a Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have a completed financial aid
file
- AIMS, Merit, Deans and President
scholarships and grant funds as determined by the FAFSA and Institution shall
make up part of the Havasupai scholarship
- Student must maintain 2.0 grade point
average
- Student must enroll at least
half time each term
