Campus Recreation Signature Events are collaboratively designed to highlight our most popular CR activities, as well as introduce innovative and progressive activities, across campus. In an effort to contribute to NAU's spirit, pride and tradition, these annual events encourage participation from the entire NAU community. Our goal is to deliver a refreshing and inclusive recreational experience to participants; ultimately fostering fun, connectivity and healthy lifestyles.

3rd Annual Sitting Volleyball Tournament

Celebrating Disability Heritage Month

In collaboration with the Commission on Disability Access and Design and NAU Disability Resources, Campus Recreation is hosting the 3rd Annual Sitting Volleyball Tournament Thursday, October 27th from 7:00 - 9:00 PM in the HLC South Gym. Register your team for free at This event is free and open to students, faculty, staff and Flagstaff community members. All levels welcome. Pizza, drinks and dessert will be provided to participants. Great raffle prizes and 1st and 2nd place team awards will be presented!

The tournament is capped at 24 teams consisting of 3-6 players per team. Pool play and a single-elimination tournament bracket will determine the 3rd Annual Sitting Volleyball Champions!

Color Run

Get color blasted during this unique, paint 5k fun run while we celebrate healthiness, school spirit and being crazy with your fellow Lumberjacks! Participate in the best/only 5k run where you'll get covered with awesome blue and gold colors as we paint the campus with spirit before the Lumberjacks take on the Cowboys from N.M. Highlands inside the Skydome.

Family Weekend 5k Fun Run, 2 mile Walk

Invite your family to campus for Family Weekend and take part in the annual tradition of the 5k Run & 2 mi Walk on Saturday, October 3, 2015! The run and walk are free, all participants must register on site. First 100 registrants will receive a FREE race t-shirt! The run and walk will start at 8am inside Lumberjack Stadium (next to the Health and Learning Center). Plan to arrive early to register, grab a healthy pre-race snack and stretch.

This is not a timed race, but prizes will be awarded to top finishers.

Tough Louie

The 2016 Tough Louie event scheduled for Saturday, October 8, 2016 has been postponed to spring of 2017. The event has been postponed to provide participants a higher-quality event next semester. Please check this page in February 2017 for race details.

For participants who have registered for the Saturday, October 8th event, an email will be sent to your NAU email account outlining your refund options.

Dive into a 500 meter swim inside the new Aquatic and Tennis Complex followed by a 5k run through campus.

NIRSA Recreational Sports & Fitness Day

February 22, 1950 is the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association's founding date. In 1999, members voted to proclaim this a day to celebrate and share the positive benefits of recreational sports, fitness, and wellness. Follow the tradition and our events nationwide using the hashtag #RecDay.

Louie Rep Challenge

Participants will compete in the following: max Squat, Bench Press, Atomic TRX push-up, and Battlerope Throw. Different divisions will be offered based on weight class.
4-7 p.m., Weight Room

Crate Stacking Competition

Put your balance to the test! See how high you can get stacking crates.
5-6:30 p.m., Multi-Purpose Gym Knockerball

Grab your friends and drop in for freestyle Knockerball or play Indoor Soccer.
7-8:30 p.m., MAC Gym
