Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions Scholarship for Excellence

The ASHAP Scholarship for Excellence will be awarded to a student enrolled in Dental Hygiene, Health Sciences, Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, or Communication Sciences and Disorders who has successfully completed at least one semester.

Criteria:

  • Candidates must be enrolled in a school that is an institutional member of the ASAHP (NAU is an institutional member).
  • Candidates must have successfully completed at least one term (quarter, semester, trimester, etc.) at that institution.
  • Candidates may be enrolled in any health discipline except those in the MOD-VOPP (medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, podiatry, pharmacy) group.
  • Candidates must be enrolled in a career entry-level, degree-granting program; all degree levels are eligible (associate, baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral)..
  • Financial need is not a criterion for eligibility.

Flagstaff Medical Center Health Professional Scholarship

The Flagstaff Medical Center Health Professional Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time, Junior or Senior health professions or nursing graduate or undergraduate student in the College of Health & Human Services. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above is required, must be a U.S. citizen, reside in northern Arizona, display evidence of commitment and service to health care and consider working at FMC following graduation.

Criteria:

  • Majoring in an academic discipline within the NAU School of Health Professions
  • Enrolled as full-time (12 semester hours or more) student
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0=A) at time of selection
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be at the junior or senior level
  • Must be a resident of the Northern Arizona region
  • Following graduation from the NAU School of Health Professions the student is expected to consider working at Flagstaff Medical Center
  • Must display evidence of commitment to health care field by either volunteer work, community involvement or similar contributions

David P. McElwain Health Professions Scholarship

The David P. McElwain Health Professions Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time, Junior or Senior health professions or nursing undergraduate or graduate student in the College of Health & Human Services. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above is required, must be a U.S. citizen and is expected to pursue a career in the health care field following graduation.

Criteria:

  • Majoring in an academic discipline within the NAU School of Health Professions
  • Enrolled as full-time (12 semester hours or more) student.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be at the junior or senior level

Dr. Larry A. Mullins Endowed Scholarship for Health Care Administration

The Larry A. Mullins DHA Scholarship was established in 2003 by the board of directors of Samaritan Health Services, Corvallis, OR. It was created in honor of Dr. Mullins, the President/CEO of Samaritan Health Services, upon completion of his doctoral degree in Health Care Administration (DHA) from the Medical University of South Carolina.

The scholarship fund is housed with the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, Corvallis, OR. Dr. Mullins chairs the selection committee for the scholarship. At least one scholarship of $1000 is awarded annually from the fund.

Eligibility: 

  • Be currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in health care related field.
  • Mullins scholarships are available to individuals without regard to race, religion, national origin, gender, age, color, disability, or marital status.
  • Note: special consideration will be given to applicants who are currently employed in the health care field, members or veterans of the U.S. military, and those who are willing to practice in Oregon or Arizona. (Veterans must submit a copy of their DD-214 Form 4 with the application.) Special consideration will also be given to applicants who are currently attending one of the following institutions: Arizona State University, Glendale Community College, Linn Benton Community College, Medical University of South Carolina, Northern Arizona University, Oregon State University and Western University of Health Sciences – COMP NW.

Application Process and Timeline: 

  • Application information is available to college financial aid/career planning staff, as well as on the Samaritan Health Services website.
  • Completed applications are due the last Friday of April of each year. Scholarship recipient(s) will be announced in June.
  • Scholarship funds will be mailed in July in the recipient’s name directly to the college/university indicated on the application. No funds will be released directly to the recipient.

Michael E. Nesbitt Sports Medicine Scholarship

The Michael E. Nesbitt Sports Medicine Scholarship will be awarded to a graduate or undergraduate student at NAU majoring in Athletic Training. A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above is required.

Criteria: 

  • Enrolled as either a graduate or undergraduate student at NAU majoring in Athletic Training
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
  • Complete and submit a maximum two-page letter describing career aspirations and desired practice area upon graduation.

Applicant must be in good standing in dental hygiene department. The Department of Dental Hygiene will be awarding a scholarship to dental hygiene students who demonstrate financial need , scholastic ability and service to the department, community and/or profession of dentistry/dental hygiene or a beginning dental hygiene student committed to working in an Arizona designated rural community for three years. Mansfield Fund to Support Dental Hygiene Student Global Engagement

The Department of Dental Hygiene will be awarding a scholarship to dental hygiene students who participate in clinical education experiences external to the Flagstaff campus environment.  Students should engage in interdisciplinary study aboard experiences, enabling them to work with faculty to provide critical healthcare services to underserved populations.

This fund shall be used to provide travel and other support for NAU Dental Hygiene students who meet the following criteria:

  • Accepted into the NAU Dental Hygiene Program and currently in good standing, as defined by the Dental Hygiene Chair; 
  • Selected to serve a student externship in Dental Hygiene;
  • Give volunteer time and service to NAU and/or to the Dental Hygiene profession; and
  • Demonstrates financial need.

Gregg E. Kollman Scholarship Fund

The Department of Physical Therapy will be awarding this scholarship.  This fund shall be used to provide scholarships to support students who meet the following criteria:

  • Accepted into the NAU Physical Therapy doctoral program
  • Arizona resident
  • Demonstrates financial need
  • Students may not receive this scholarship more than once.

Bea Claire Miller Memorial Scholarship
  • The student must be a full-time student and a junior in the NAU Physical Therapy Program
  • The award will be based on the applicant’s academic performance while in the Physical Therapy Program and financial need

PT Class of 2000 Legacy Scholarship
  • Current enrollment in the physical therapy program and maintenance of enrollment in good standing.
  • Current membership in the America Physical Therapy Association (APTA) professional organization
  • Financial need as defined by registration with the NAU Financial Aid Office
  • Demonstrated current and on-going community service
  • Recipients re only eligible to receive this scholarship for one year and may not reapply
