More
information
Northern Arizona University’s Athletic Training program is accredited by CAATE (Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education). We are the only state institution in Arizona with such a program and one of just two CAATE-accredited institutions in the state. Our ATEP is a mandatory 3-year (6-semester) program, regardless of previous schooling.
After admission to NAU, the student must apply to the Athletic Training program. Admission decisions are based on the coursework completed, grade point average (2.75 minimum), experience in athletic training, letter of application, letters of recommendation, an interview, and a practical examination. Applications are due February 15 of each year.
Students applying for admission must have completed a minimum of two terms of college-level coursework (or in progress) including the following courses or their equivalents with a grade of “C” or better: AT 200, AT 229, BIO 181, HS 200, and PSY 101. This 8-term plan assumes readiness for MAT 125 in the 1st term. Students who have not placed at the MAT 125 level may need to take a pre-requisite, such as MAT 108–Algebra for Pre-calculus (or its transfer equivalent). Please note, however, that MAT 108 is not a requirement for this degree, though it may satisfy a general elective.
All students are required to complete at least 120 units and the required 35 units of liberal studies and 6 units of diversity courses to graduate from NAU. Also, to obtain this degree, the student must earn a “C” or better in 84 units of AT course work. These courses are in bold print on the progression plan.
