James “Buck” Clark,
’50 BSED & ’54 MA, received the International President’s Certificate
of Appreciation from the Lions Club International. The award was bestowed upon
Buck for his continued support and service to the organization
Joella Jean Mahoney,
’55 BFA (above photo), who was honored as Distinguished Alumnae by NAU during the
Centennial Year Celebration, spoke at the Sedona Art Museum about her passion
for natural landscapes and their influence in her paintings and drawings. The
beauty of the Colorado Plateau is the dominant motif of her works.
Dentist Dr. John Killip, ’64 BA, was awarded the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Distinguished Service Award, bestowed for significant contributions to the organization through education, research and service. John retired after a 40-year career at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Dentistry last December, where he still holds the title of Clinical Professor Emeritus. He was vital in developing programs for ADEA, including the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Special Interest Group.

offers discount travel rates for NAU alumni. Dr. Mickey Urdea, ’74 BS, was appointed to the board of directors for Pressure BioSciences, Inc. He will additionally be responsible for leading the company’s Scientific Advisory Board. Mickey has led companies in biomarker discovery, personalized medicine, and healthcare consulting. He has authored almost 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications and holds more than 100 issued and pending patents.
Dr. Jeff Felix, ’75
BS (pictured above), has been named
2013 Superintendent of the Year by the Association of California School
Administrators and the San Diego County School Boards. Serving as
superintendent of the Coronado Unified School District (CUSD) since 2008, Jeff,
who carries 30 years of experience in education, was named Superintendent/Principal
of the Year in 2003. He discovered that
he wanted to be an educator in the fourth grade, and has since instructed
students, coached football and served as an administrator.

concluded its season this April with a performance by Cellar Door, a vocal
group consisting of Lawrence Vincent,
’77 MS, his wife Jeannie, and brother Steve. Larry has traveled across
Europe, the Middle East and Asia, touting performances across 45 operas and
operettes and more than 1200 stage appearances.

Dr. Larry Clark, ’78
MS (photo above), was recipient of the
2013 Monell Center’s Kerry-Manheimer Award. The award recognizes outstanding
accomplishments and contributions in chemosensory sciences, a field devoted to
the taste and smell of chemicals. Larry is director of the U.S. Department of
Agriculture’s National Wildlife Research Center.
Commercial ExecutiveMagazine featured Larry Downey, ’79 BSBA, in a recent
article highlighting his 25-year business relationship with partner Jerry
Jacobs. Vice-chairman of CBRE, Larry possesses decades of experience in real
estate markets.
