Application process

Freshman

Take the first step toward your future—receiving an excellent education—with our simple, straightforward online application process. You’ll receive an admission decision quickly, so you can spend more time preparing for college.

What you’ll need to apply and deadline dates

You’ll need to:

  • meet the university’s admissions requirements 
  • pay a $25 non-refundable application fee
  • complete the application— you may self-report if you are a freshman applying to attend the Flagstaff campus
  • send your official ACT and/or SAT scores for scholarship consideration
  • apply by the deadline assigned for the semester you wish to start:

If you have already started your application, please refer to your application registration confirmation email for your application link. If you need help, email asknau@nau.edu and provide your name date of birth and address and we will respond.

Freshman Application: The fall 2015 application is now available.
You have already graduated from high school or will be graduating prior to enrollment and have not enrolled at any college, university or other school.

Transfer Application: The fall 2014 (July 1) has passed. Applications are being accepted for winter 2014, spring 2015 and summer 2015.  Fall 2015 will be available soon.
You are a high school graduate who has enrolled at a college, university or any other school since you've graduated from high school and you've earned at least 12 college credits.

Post-baccalaureate Application:
You are a college graduate who has already earned a bachelor's degree and would like to continue your studies.

Non-Degree Application: 
You would like to study part-time and/or for personal enrichment only. (Your educational status is not required to study as a non-degree student at the university.)

Submit your official transcripts to the university

If you are applying to the Flagstaff campus

First-Year Students: If high school courses and grades were entered on your application please do not send your transcript at this time. We will notify you if your transcript is needed.

Transfer Students: Please send transcripts from all institutions attended. Send a high school transcript if you have not earned an Associate’s degree or are not 22 years old with more than 24 academic credits.

Post-baccalaureate Students: Only transcripts from the institution your bachelor’s was conferred. If any other institutions were attended after earning your bachelor’s degree please send them as well.

Non-degree Seeking Students: Please do not send transcripts.

Sending your Transcripts

Copies of your official transcripts must be sent in a sealed envelope directly from your high school community college and/or university to:

If your high school or college does not have an official form to request transcripts, download and print our official transcript request form, now. 

Submit official ACT and/or SAT scores to the university

ACT and SAT scores are not required for admission, but are required if you like to be considered for scholarships.

You can submit the scores by having them sent directly to us from ACT or SAT (enter school code 0086 for the ACTs and 4006 for the SATs)

Once your application is received, you can expect to receive a letter to confirm that we are reviewing your application. 

For Flagstaff campus applicants, admission decisions are made once an application is complete. You are encouraged to check your application status during the review process.

If you are applying to one of our Arizona sites, online programs or the Yuma Branch Campus (Extended Campuses)

Northern Arizona University is currently not accepting residents of Oregon into our online degree programs. Oregon residents can contact Shari.Miller@nau.edu for further information.

All applicants must submit official transcripts of all coursework completed and currently enrolled courses.

First-Year Students: You may not self-report previous coursework.  Send an official high school transcript.

Transfer Students: Please send transcripts from all institutions attended. Send a high school transcript if you have not earned an Associate’s degree or are not 22 years old with more than 24 academic credits.
