Supplemental Instruction
We are aware that new college students often struggle before learning how to study and succeed in introductory science courses. For students planning to apply for admission in a professional program it is important to succeed in these classes. Therefore we highly recommend participating in Supplemental Instruction.
A successful upper class student attends class with the freshmen, then meets with those students who would like more help in a small, student-led group outside of class. The student leader also offers one-on-one tutoring throughout each week.
The Supplemental Instruction program at NAU has produced a wide array of positive effects, including higher midterm and final grades, as well as greater improvement from midterm to final grades for participating students.
Supplemental Instruction is available for many of the following introductory courses:
- CHM 151, 152, 235, 238;
- BIO 181, 182, 201, 202, 205, 220;
- EXS 190
- NTS 256
- PHY 111, 112
- PSY 101
- SOC 101
