Our Office

Our office is available to guide students as they prepare for a career in medicine, veterinary medicine, optometry, podiatry, pharmacy, physician assistant, physical therapy, or any other health profession. Students should consult with their departmental advisor for problems or information about their major. However, matters concerning professional school preparation and application are best answered here. The Office of Biomedical Professions also assists students who have not decided for which health profession they are best suited. Our goal is to prepare students not only for medical school, but for a variety of health professions and graduate programs. Only a few highly selected students are accepted into medical or veterinary school. We feel it is important, therefore, to introduce students to the lesser known health professions such as optometry or podiatry, so that more than a select few may find their professional niche. The office contains a resource library of information and catalogues of the allied health professions as well as the health professions.

"Introduction to The Biomedical Professions" UC 199

We offer a one credit Fall semester course entitled, "Introduction to the Biomedical Professions."

This course is designed to assist students in preparing to become competitive for admission to their intended professional programs. It will also introduce a variety of different professions, many of which they may have never considered.

Internships and Preceptorships

NAU students may participate in a open-ended preceptorship with a community practitioner, and students in their junior and senior years may select a one or two credit internship. Here, they observe and work with a health professional four or eight hours a week, and present an oral and written case study at the end of the semester.
