Native American Biomedical Professions Students
Because one of the goals of NAU's mission statement is to become a leader in Native American education and retention, the Office of Biomedical Professions sponsors numerous activities designed to encourage Native American students by exposing them to the health professions.
Two field trips to The University of Arizona College of Medicine are arranged each year, with a Talking Medicine Circle of Native American premed, medical students, physicians, and other health professionals in the evening.
We also have arranged for a field trip to Sage Memorial Hospital in Ganado, Arizona, on the Navajo reservation. Each student is paired with a physician for the afternoon.
In addition we have arranged for on-site internships at Sage Memorial Hospital during summer, spring break, or Christmas break for our Native American students.
